Developmental Editing

Developmental editing for your writing should honor both your project and your process. I offer close, personalized support to help you strengthen your work in ways that align with your goals, vision, and creative priorities.

Whether you’re shaping a book, dissertation, journal article, or new project, I focus on listening deeply to what you need and where you want support. Together, we identify what matters most for your project, whether that’s argument, narrative, pacing, structure, or the integration of sources, and create a roadmap for revision that respects your voice and intentions.

My approach to developmental editing is rooted in collaboration, clarity, and attentive reading. I read your work carefully, guided by what you’ve identified as priorities, and provide feedback that is both actionable and constructive, helping you see patterns, opportunities, and next steps. This is not a one-size-fits-all process — it’s tailored to your goals and your project.

Developmental editing with me is a co-creative process, designed to help you move from uncertainty to clarity, and from draft to polished, confident work.

Whether your focus is argument, narrative, research, or overall structure, my goal is to help you shape a project that reflects your vision, strengthens your ideas, and honors the work you’ve already done.

How We Begin

  • Free Consultation: We start with a no-cost call to talk through your project, your goals, and the kind of support you’re seeking. This helps us decide if we’re a good fit.
  • Clarifying Your Needs: If we move forward, you name what’s most important at this stage—reading for argument, narrative flow, structure, organization, source use, or anything else you want me to prioritize.
  • Close, Intentional Reading: I read your draft with care, attentiveness, and your stated priorities at the center. I offer both affirming insights and constructive suggestions rooted in your aims for the work.
  • Feedback Format: You choose the kind of feedback you prefer:
    • In-text comments
    • A detailed editorial letter
      • All feedback is in response to your priorities.
  • Meeting: We meet to go over feedback together. This conversation helps you clarify your next steps, make decisions with support, and feel grounded as you move into revision.

I offer a sliding scale to make developmental editing accessible for writers with varying levels of support and institutional funding.
